Kuyaba on the Beach

There are many places to stay when in Negril, but none have the history of Kuyaba! Back in the 60's, an ambitious young Jamaican named Israel Williams used his purse winnings from a famous racehorse to buy a 'patch of jungle 'in Negril, Jamaica and called it Sea Gem. In the 70's, many "hippies" found out about this place called Negril and soon they were visited by flower children and travelers of all kinds who were searching for something spectacular in the Caribbean. Before long, the small thatched huts gave way to simple wooden cottages, some of which still stand on the property. The restaurant name, Kuyaba, became the name of the resort and that is the place that we are featuring today on our Negril Today page!
