Next Stop, Arthurs Beach - since 1952
May 16th - 17th, 2015
On our Negril Message Board in our Forum section, there has been some discussion about Negril since tourism started. A fantastic photographer, Robin Farquharson posted some incredible pictures taken in the early 70's when Negril was becoming known as a tourist destination. Robin posted a picture of a sign and lane for Arthurs Beach taken back in 1972. You can see it by clicking on the highlighted link above. Today, I took a picture taken in the same spot to show the changes that have taken place in the past 43 years. Compare the two pictures. The most obvious changes are the electric pole, the trimmed foliage, the driveway on the property next door and the brand new sign that states that the Arthurs Beach property has existed "Since 1952", twenty years before the first picture was taken. Sometimes things dont change all that much, even after 43 years! To find things to see while visiting our island, check out our Things To Do section.
