The Year’s Top Threads 2007 was a time of transformation for the Negril Message Board. The “new” format finally took root enabling boardies to interact in ways that showed us all something new. Pictures were featured in posts more frequently and in greater abundance than ever before. Discussions grew to epic proportions with hundreds of posts in a single thread. YouTube videos added a fun new dimension to posts, both fueling and cooling heated exchanges. Trip reports during 2007 took audience participation to new levels and generated incredible accumulations of views and posted responses. Adventures that spread across several days, and lots of Jamaican territory with it’s hot and cold running trade winds, made for compelling reading. Oh, what arguments sprung forth! Discussions were spawned that drew more than 100 posted responses and thousands of views. The Thanksgiving Week Roll Call was the longest single thread with 354 posts and 4601 views. Hot spin-off threads from intensely followed discussions coalesced into Mega-threads - mini boards unto themselves with upwards of 300 posts and 7,000 views. The FOJ Bashment Thread was the first of the mega-threads. It contains 347 posts that garnered a total of 7296 views. Michael's Trip Report Compilation is the newest and largest of the mega-threads. At 460 posts with 10,971 views and growing, it closes a stellar 2007 and ushers in the New Year with a big bang. During 2007, boardies posted more than 85,000 times in discussions running the full gamut - from joy to tragedy, adventure to quiet reflection, bar life to home life, pet life to sea life. Add to that all the conversation about Negril and the rest of Jamaica, and you get some idea of the posting activity… On top of that, there were millions of page views by the shadowy "lurkers" on board. So, you might wonder, "What was everybody looking at and talking about?" Here's two charts that provide us with a rough idea of what topics stood out this year. They can't really tell us what people actually "liked" or "cared about", but they do show what discussions inspired the most participation, and the most lurking. Which thread was the best thread of 2007? You'll have to decide that. | Top 17 Discussions of 2007 | | No. | Link | Started By | # Posts | Views | | 1 | Michael's Trip Report Compilation | Michael(Casstaway) | 460 | 10,971 | | 2 | Thanksgiving Week Roll Call | Buffy | 354 | 4,601 | | 3 | FOJ Bashment Thread | Rambo | 347 | 7,296 | | 4 | Love those Curves | Papamark | 311 | 6,156 | | 5 | Posting in patois, dialect or whatever | Penny and Pete | 246 | 3,404 | | 6 | Favourite Pic "Hustlers" On The Beach | First Bargain Station | 205 | 5,671 | | 7 | Trying to start warm and fuzzy pet thread | linger | 198 | 1,621 | | 8 | What do you do? Well done Dreadneck You rock man! It's funny that most of these post are recent, I think this shows a good trend, however, I suppose, it could also correspond with the season. It also interests me that a lot of these posts are not necessarily Negril related. To me this shows that we are a real community here, that has gone way beyond being a simple tourist board. The longer I am on the board, the more I feel like I am part of a whole that makes up this wonderful boardie family . I have made so many friends on this board, some I have met, and some I am still waiting to meet. I can't tell you how much it means to have a place like this. The world is moving so fast around us, I sometimes feel it is just passing by. This board makes me feel like a place I can come home to no matter how crazy things are feeling. It is so strange that somewhere in cyber space I have found a place that feels so solid. The board has become my rock. My one regret is not going to boardie gatherings while I was in Ja. I will do it differently in the future. I encourage all of you to have boardie gatherings in your various parts of the world. Several of us Los Angeles boardies got together earlier this year and we have been continuing to get together ever since. We have a lot of fun and laughs and I feel like we are now true, life enhancing friends. BTW, LA lurkers and busy folks (Mikata, Swedish??) we still want to hang , don't be shy. So to all you lurkers, come on down. We welcome all new posters with open arms. Although, there are several sub groups, we are not a clique as it may appear. A lot of us have met, but we want to meet you too. Please, come join the party. Thank you so much to all of you at Negril.com who work hard to bring this wonderful place to us. Special thanks to you Dreadneck, all this new technology is truly amazing . Lastly, thanks to each and everyone of you who love Jamaica and her people. It is just so nice to have you all here.

Thanks back to all of you who write all of these wonderful posts! I expanded the "Top Ten" to a "Top 15" after I discovered Alexandra's thread was missing from the list and the pet thread would have been pushed out. There were three really popular pet threads in a short period of time and the expansion includes two of them. http://DREADNECK.COM

Rootswoman, we have an annual gig in the Midwest every June that's really fun too, the famed "Bebe Bashment" at fellow-boardie Bebe & Burke's totally cool piece of land in western Illinois. I went for the 1st & 2nd annual, had to miss the 3rd annual this past year due to back injury. But I'll be back for the 4th annual this year, if they can put up with us, LOL! I have found everybody to be very diverse, tolerant & welcoming. Here's to a great 2008! Buena salud, buena vida (Good health, good life)
