Dear Brenda,

Now that I'm on the mend, I'm going to re-direct all of the wonderful energy and friendship that my Jamaican friends (and many that I'm looking forward to meeting)sent me when I was in the hospital - as well as my own. I was never as scared about things as I think my family was, because I could see the amazing care that I was getting. The surgeons really are magicians. Thank God you had sufficient medical coverage.
I hope that this may be of some comfort to you, but while I was in the hospital in Vancouver, I met 7 - 8 people (both men & women) who had heart transplants, and every one of them was on their feet 2 days after the operation and walking like a 20 year old - so - if that's the recommendation your Doctors make, don't be afraid of it.
We probably won't cross paths this year, 'cause Eddy will have to heal a bit, but I think that next year we should get together to compare scars and stories and raise a glass or 2 to the amazing people that there are in this world - medical, family, friends and even strangers who send their love and energy to others in need.
Good luck to you both.Upload

My brother in law had a heart transplant almost 20 years ago (at age 47) here in Vancouver. He is still doing well and continues to enjoy all life offers. Not only did he get to see all his grandchildren grow up, he is now watching the first of the great grands grow as well. I was with my sister at the hospital when the transplant was done, and I have never seen anything so amazing in my life. Hours after the operation, he was alert and joking; and two days later was moved from the ICU to regular room. Within a week, the hospital had him in their gym for exercise and in eight weeks, he was home. And that was 20 years ago - more progress has been made in those past years. God bless all the organ donors of the world, and God bless all the recipients of one of the greatest gifts one can receive!

Irv, glad to hear that you are on the mend! My husband had sudden/unexpected quintuple bypass in June. He is doing well - walking 3 to 4 miles everyday and watching his diet, taking his meds. It has been a long road.... harder on me to watch my love go thru this. I still worry, but his doctor assures me that he is fine. The doctors are miracle workers! Brenda take care of yourself, as Eddie needs you!
Me, I'm headed to Negril in 39 days for a little R & R with my girlfriends!

TL,
Where are you staying? Irv and I will be down there also
we could get together and have a toast to miracle workers!
We could do brunch at Selina's or up on the cliffs.
I'm open.

I'm glad I was able to reach you by phone yesterday, I just wish the news was better. I am praying for you and Eddie - if there is anything I can do for you please let me know. I had SO much fun this trip with you, Eddie, Dawn Marie and Garzan. I am sending hope and love your way. Give Eddie my regards.

Quick Update,
Eddie is scheduled for surgery in the morning. They are implanting an artificial heart pump so he can survive and put him on the transplant list.
Everyone's prayers have helped pull him through so far....so please keep him there and let's hope he's strong enough to make it through this difficult surgery in the morning......
