Jimmy - since you asked.

I'm a 50 year old woman. After spending my entire life raising my children, I finally took my first trip in 2002 WITH my youngest daughter and it meant the world to me to see a place I could only read about. We giggled our way through that week and have been back 3 more times.

Medical issues kept me away this year, but I have all hopes and dreams of another visit in 2008.

Your stories just touched me as Jamaica does - it just makes you feel good.

Oh, and I "luv2walk" anywhere and everywhere. To ward off heart disease, it was a doctor recommended (mandatory) suggestion.

Famous Vicent's Glass Bottom Boat Tour
by Jim Nasium

I had heard so much about him
every one said he's a really nice man
they couldn't tell me what he showed them
because they said I wouldn't understand
unless I went to see for myself
so I decided I had to go
but not right away maybe later
in Jamaica things move very slow

When I first met Famous Vincent
I wasn't really sure what to think
after looking over his little boat
I was afraid that maybe we'd sink
but I took a chance any how
let Famous Vincent take me and my son to sea
we went all the way to Sandy Kay
what an amazing place to be

I couldn't do any snorkeling
so I laid back and tried to relax
the rocking of the boat made me sick
and these are just the facts
I wanted to go back to shore
but no one was ready to go back
I realized very quickly that day
sea legs are some thing I lack

II.

My son was like a fish in the water
he never wanted to go back to land
I told him "Dads getting sick"
but he didn't understand
he didn't drink a bottle of wine
with breakfast just an hour ago
he was young and full of fire
there was no way for him to know

Sitting quietly waiting
for my son and Vicente to return
I felt the warmth of the hot sun
and my fair skin started to burn
just then much to my surprise
I saw my son's face in the glass
that was the bottom of Vincent's Boat
and then I watched him swim past

Finally they came aboard
we headed back to land
my son had the time of his life
but told me he didn't understand
why I couldn't snorkel with them
so I said maybe some day
you'll understand when you're my age
and that's all I had to say

III.

I had been to Sandy Kay before
but that was 35 years ago
an old fisherman took me out there
said it was a nice place to go
I swam around the over sized coral
touched fish, saw ells and more
but stepped on a sea urchin
while walking on the sea floor

From what I saw of Sandy Kay
through the glass bottom of Vincent's Boat
Sandy Kay wasn't the same place
now I don't want to gloat
but when I was there let me make it clear
the coral was bigger than today
there were so very many more fish
but them days are gone to stay

The coral reef's not the same to me
as it was many years ago
but it was new to my son
after all how could he know
the reef is just a shadow of what
Sandy Kay once used to be
but never the less I got to confess
I'm glad Famous Vicent took us out to sea

THANK YOU so very much and way more than that even for your kind words about my writing.... I do the best i can to describe what I am feeling when I try to tell the story I am writing about, and this one, Vincent and his Glass Bottom Boat came to me easily, just about an hour ago... in fact the poem I just posted is in fact the newest poem I have written....

My son loved Sandy Kay but to me in wasn't so impressive, not after seeing that coral reef 35 years ago, before the human, and storm damage the reef has suffered....

Have yous guys been out to the coral reef ???????

May I suggest you look for Famous Vincent, he will be going back and forth from one end'a the cliffs, to the other, and in and out to sea, from Sandy Kay all day, every day. Just wave to him, wave him over, and he will tell you when to meet him for your Glass Bottom Boat Tour, but DO NOT pay more than 20 US....

sometimes, if ya take a group with ya Vincent will lower the price per person. For example, when we went out to sea to dump my olld friends ashes out to sea, there were 12 of us and Vincent only charged us for 10...

Vincent offers flippers, snorkles, and masks, and give you some brief instructions on what to do, what not to do, what to touch, what not to touch, and will stay out there swimming with you for about an hour... it's is a MUST DO while you are there... tell Vincent Jimmy told you about him, and remind him of Jimmy and his friends going out to sea to dump the ashes, and who knows, you might even get a discount????? Have fun and PLEAE tell us all here all about it once you finally do get out to Sandy Kay, and home again... okay?

About Vincent and his glass bottom boat tours

What'a life...

Famous Vincent goes back and forth from the cliffs to the coral reef all day, and sometimes he does 6 or more trips a day, and at 20 US Bucks a head, this guy is making big money for a man living in Jamaica...

He should be wealthy, if not rich by now.

I am happy for him that he's making hundreds and hundreds of US Dollars each day doing what he loves to do, swim in the coral reef, and meet new folks daily. I know folks here in the USA that are not retired like myself, who work each week and make less a week than that guy makes in a day..

To be honest with you when Vincent asked me if i wanted to buy his other boat, and allow my son to captain that other boat, and take folks out to the reef, I almost laid out the money... and I am still considering it, for my son. What'a wonderful life it must be, spending time out to sea... getting paid in cash.

i got to go...
I've got a zillion things to do today
talk you yous guys later

Jim, actually Vincent charged $15 US per person (10,000 J), for the 10 of us, which included the extra time to spread the ashes.

Since I hadn't been to Negril in years, and since I wasn't sure who would be there, and who wouldn't, what was going on and what wasn't, if I had a place to stay or not and since I was bring along my son this time I decided to stay in a Hotel for awhile until I figured out if I would stay longer, and where I would spend my stay. I searched the net for Hotels in negrils, and found a few for $700.00 a night that seem interesting, and some for a few hundred a night that I considered but when I found The Samsara I knew that would be the place for me to stay, until I felt out what was, and what wasn't possible for me this time...

This is a review of The Samsara I wrote and sent to TripAdvisor.com, Samsara, my friends, and now YOU!

A Small Piece Of Paradise: Samsara
by Jim Nasium
07.04.07

The very first moment I waked into the shady coolness of the main desk area of The Samara Hotel and saw the ornamental gates, the comfy sofas, the smile on everyone's face, and felt the coolness sink deep into my skin, and bones I knew I was some where I would enjoy being. My first impression of The Samsara Hotel was correct I discovered my very first [full] day there.

After checking in, which didn't take very long, I was taken to my rather impressive room and shown how to use the TV, and the AC key and the moment I stepped out on my sea view balcony I was so very glad I followed my instinct and decided to spend my time in Jamaica there, at the Samsara.

The view of the sea, and the fresh sea air blowing into my room as I lay on my queen sized comfortable clean bed reminded me of days I have spent on that beautiful little island years ago, and made me so very happy to be
back and even happier I picked Samsara to stay in.

A walk to the cliffs to relax and take a swim in the ocean, then a boat ride out to the coral reef with Famous Vincent, the live entertainment at night, the staff, and all of the help, all did everything they could do to make sure my stay would be enjoyable, and easy for me. The food was excellent, and there was as much or as little food as I wanted each meal and the Rum Punch [that flowed like a river] was a real treat ;-)

EVERY ONE I met there, and I MEAN EVERY ONE was pleasant, friendly, helpful and more than willing to do any thing I asked of them and even in [some] cases that could easily be considered over and above the call of duty. Since I have a slight handicap and can not get around easily I was very pleased the staff was so nice, and so very willing to help...

I really enjoyed my stay at The Samsara [what I can remember of it anyhow, you see I drank A LOT'A Rum Punch mon'] and yes, I WILL go back and stay at Samsara one day.

How ever one small draw back I found was the fact that once the bar closed at 11:00 PM there was no where on the property to get a cold drink, that I was aware of anyhow, so.... may I suggest you either bring a small cooler with you when ya go, or buy a cooler there, and make sure to get some drinks, and ice to keep in that cooler just in case you are like me and would want a cold drink when ya wake up, or come to [what ever the case may be] in the middle of the night or before the bar & kitchen / dinning room opens.

Perhaps Samsara will consider getting some soda machines folks can get cold soda's out'a at night, and who knows, maybe they could put some Red Stripe in there too ;-)

GO TO Samsara... do yourself a favor, and bring your whole family, they'll all love it too. I give the Samsara a 4.70 stars out of a possible 5.00 stars rating...

see that....

That'll give you an idea of how out there I was... what made me think there was 12 of us???? Never the less he did give us all a real deal, wouldn't you agree?

Sometimes The Wind Will Blow
by Jim Nasium

In the haze of early morning
out in the middle of no where
the opium farmer offers dreams
that can only be had there
days spent chasing the dragon
lost in another place
you don't need to say a word
it's written all over your face

Out of the heat of mid day
you rest inside the hut
young girls fan and serve you
don't care you're stuck in a rut
they are more than willing
to satisfy your every need
you sit there with a needle in your arm
watching your self bleed

Safe in the darkness of night
you lay quietly all alone
don't need a computer
a TV or telephone
you are well connected with
the forces of the universe
tomorrow you'll do it all again
things are getting worse

In the haze of early morning
out in the middle of no where
the opium farmers sells dreams
that can only be bought there
you said you didn't want to stay
now you don't want to go
rain will fall now and then
sometimes the wind will blow

Blind Justice
by Jim Nasium

The tailor brought a class action suit
when the baker said he kneaded the dough
they called in a farmer out standing in his field
and a traveler who wanted some place to go
the fisherman wasn't the only one who went to sea
a candle maker was standing there in the light
the doctor, the lawyer and street walker
were also there to share that night

No one ever thought it'd go this far
after all it was all based on hear say
the farmer couldn't produce evidence
not even up until this day
but never the less it only takes one
rotten apple to spoil the bunch
I thought it was wrong but what could I do
all I really had was a hunch

I watched as they took him off to jail
another young man falsely accused
she sat there with a smile on her face
every one knew she enjoyed being used
the judge said "this case is closed"
I sat there quietly on my hands
it was another case of blind justice
I'll never understand...

I'd like to go back, especially now that I KNOW Grandma's alive, and everyone remembers me, and that there's a place waiting for me, up near where I used to live all them years ago. Who knows, maybe I will??

Some ting for you to consider

BUREAU URGES CONSUMERS TO BEWARE OF UNTESTED ACKEES.

The Bureau of Standards is advising consumers to beware of fraudulent untested canned ackees which are currently being sold on the market.

The untested canned ackees are being sold under the Pot O’ Gold label and are purported to be manufactured by West Best Foods.

The Bureau’s records have revealed that the factory code on the cans of these ackees do not match the registered factory code of West Best Foods nor that of Agriventures Jamaica Ltd, which owns the Pot O’ Gold label.

Executive Director of the Bureau of Standards, Dr. Omer Thomas says the Bureau’s inspectors are in the process of removing these ackees from the shelves.

“The Bureau has to protect consumers who may be desperate for a quick meal in light of the post hurricane situation”, he said.

Under the Processed Foods Act, all canned ackees which are sold on the market or exported, must first be tested by the Bureau of Standards. Each batch of canned ackee is tested to ensure safety of the fruit for consumption. Testing exemptions are granted only to companies which are Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certified

I wonder do you remember what life was like BEFORE THE COMPUTER?

LIFE BEFORE THE COMPUTER
by Jim Nasium

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano!

Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3 1/2 inch floppy
You hoped nobody found out!

Compress was something you did to garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for a while!

Log on was adding wood to a fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode!

Cut - you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu!

I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead
I think I'm going back to pencil and paper
And the memory available in my head

A Man And His Ferris Wheel
A Story Poem by Jim Nasium

He lived down the street from a junk yard
would work down there now and then
one day it finally dawned on him
so he took some rods and started to bend
when he had a bunch of rods bent just right
he started welding them together
and every day he worked on the thing
it started to look better and better

He fashioned many little seats
made of rod and wire mesh mat
he welded them all together
not wearing a welders hat
and slowly one day at a time
his idea finally came to life
no one understood his goal at all
not even his loving wife

Finally about a month later
I saw him with pink paint gallon cans
I asked him what he was doing
he asked me to lend him a hand
so we painted his Ferris wheel
man powered and very crude
I told him it was beautiful
I didn't want to be rude

We spread the word around the bush
come get a ride for a dime
and he would be ready any day
he wasn't concerned with the time
it took two men to pump the thing
to make it go around and round
and the same men had to jump and hold on
when they wanted the thing to slow down

The children all seemed to love it
he was making a few dollars each day
how the thing managed to stay together
is something that no one could say
but I was happy for him
he was able to make a dream come true
and if you look at the picture
you can see what I'm trying to explain to you...

I Love You Negril
A Poem by Jim Nasium

out on the west end
of a beautiful isle
in a very small town
where I lived for awhile
in West Moorland parish
up on Monkey Hill
the town of my heart
I love you Negril

many friendly people
own shops in the town
the market's always open
it never shuts down
anything you want
can be had for a price
some times it's free
if you're really nice

meat and fruit pattie
coconut drink
fish on a stick
sometimes they stink
goat heads soup
peas and rice
breadfruit and yams
are always nice

ackee and kalalu
mutton and rice
eating in Jamaica
is always nice
fresh fruits and veggies
served up real nice
eat some jerk chicken
it's loaded with spice

raisin rum ice cream
cold red stripe beer
walking the back streets
there's nothing to fear
but gaining a few pounds
from all that you eat
I love the food of Jamaica
and don't mind the heat

friend bananas
cheese and a bun
eating in Jamaica
is a whole lot of fun
the people are friendly
there are never any fights
I really did get lost there
one day for three nights

out on the west end
of that beautiful isle
in a very small town
where I lived for awhile
in West Moorland Parish
up on Monkey Hill
the town of my heart
I love you Negril...
