hi boardies. i know this has been discussed before. i did search the archives for other threads, but i am hoping a few of you might be able to help me help a friend. in mid-october, she will be participating in a bike ride that ends in negril and she is looking for a really great massage afterwards. the ride is on a saturday, so she will need the massage on the sunday. it's a holiday weekend in jamaica too (Heroes Day), so we need to know who gives a really great massage and is going to be working on a holiday weekend. any recommendations?
also, any boardies planning to be in negril on october 16, let me know if you are interested in coming out to support the riders as they come into negril. they will have ridden over 150 miles to get there, and it's for a really great cause. check the website if you're interested, and once the official flier has been made i'll post that too. thanks! www.jamaicabybike.com |

I cant recommend Jackie's on the Reef enough! It is an amazing place and the massages are top-notch! It is deep westend, so your friend would need to take a taxi, but it is well worth the effort.

I reccomend Beverly Haslam. She has a shop on the cliffs very close to catcha falling star. Great massage and very reasonable rates!

i wanted to correct my first post as well, my friend will be looking to get a massage on the saturday, late afternoon or early evening. |

There are many wonderful pairs of hands in Negril!
My personal favorite is Sandra. She is one of several talented women that work out of the little pink hut between Charela and Idle Awhile that is run by the Chamber of Commerce. She was key to my recovery both times I've done the Reggae Marathon.

Monica is located at/near Treehouse but will come to your room - she has done wonders for me! Pat at Boat Bar is my mom's favorite because she knows what she is doing for people with arthritis. Miss Patsy is TOO STRONG for me.

too bad the massages are a likkle pricey in Jamaica....
but have to say Pat at the Boat Bar does an awesome massage for the money....$30 for an hour

I can also second Jackie's. My massage there was fantastic. I would also recommend finding a place where you could either soak in a hot bath or sit in a hot jacuzzi for a good 10-15 minutes first to warm up the muscles. That allows for a much better massage and after the marathon, you'll need it. If you can do that at your hotel and have the therapist come to your room, that would be ideal.
Also, make sure whoever you go to has a full table WITH head pad so that you can put your face through the donut hole and keep your spine straight. I've been to several massage therapists in Negril that DON'T have the head pad and you have to twist your neck to the side while laying on your stomach. Not so great, especially after a marathon.

ann near bourbon beach helped me to feel irie real quick last vacation - she wouldn't stop until the knots were gone - it wasn't timed - when i turned into the blob - she stopped

Hi everyone,
Thank you all so very much for all your suggestions. It is tricky to know which to choose.
No doubt I will find a way to decide and will end up with a very helpful and soothing massage after the looooooong ride from Kingston.
