I'd stick them in checked luggage just to be safe. I seem to remember that there is also a limit as to how many you can take. "Give thanks for your blessings today ~ as tomorrow they could be taken away" Daville

Lighters are now allowed as carry on items. Bic lighters are a welcome present and only available at expensive resorts for $6.00 USD each. Costco's current price is $34.90 for 60 lightershttp://www.tsa.gov/travelers/sop/index.shtm I always seem to get away with taking a dozen or more. I have had them taken from checked luggage so I now carry them on. "You lost today kid, that does'nt mean you have to like it"....the man who gave Indiana Jones his hat.

I *almost* lost a heirloom dupont lighter...just to be safe make sure you check the TSA and Airline. Probably now things have been cross referenced and there is a solid policy as posters are noting. but man, within a few years ago you might have TSA terminal policy AND airline policy to worry about, and knuckledraggers who didn't even know enforcing only god knows what version of the rules and restrictions. Imagine being told you had to give up a $550 lighter! Then another time I had totally forgotten I had it in my carry on and flew 3 stops no problems. Go figure. a noble stroke he lifted high, Which hung not but so swift with tempest fell On the proud crest of Satan that no sight, nor motion of swift thought, less could his shield such ruin intercept; ten paces huge he back recoil'd; the tenth on bended knee...

Now hear this: Lighters are now allowed in carry on! They actually changed the rules about a year ago. That is official TSA info. Now, I just wish they'd rethink the whole liquids thing. http://nikkikamens.squarespace.com

I was traveling within the US last July. When we got to our destination my check bag had been opened and there was a notice from TSA in it stating that my lighter was confiscated. I also understand that they may remove aerosol products from check baggage if too many exist in one case, but no one from the airline was able to clarify how many too many was.

I always carry 1 in my purse + a book of matches. Then I put one of each in my checked bag. "Getting Old Ain't For Sissys!!" [Bette Davis]

We flew last December out of Detroit and while in line, we took out our lighters to throw them in the trash bin. The lady working stopped us and said we could keep them in our pockets.

I had no problems either way this past July. I think I had one in my pocket, a couple in my carry on suitcase and a couple in my purse. However I also had all my cigarettes in there so maybe they figure I smoke too much and needed all those lighters LOL.

| Yes, I use the divide and conquer method too, spread them among checked, carry on and pockets. They've all gotten through so far...and the liquids thing bugs me too, I love (NEED) my water on the plane! |

If you aren't 'rigid' about drinking 'bottled' water, take an empty water bottle through security and fill it at the fountain on the other side for free . Some of your friends are here

I have no problem with the "liquid thing" if that is one of the things it takes to keep us safe.

| I'm with Captain Oil on this one. Liquid propellants as well as explosives are readily available. Thanks for keeping my air travel safe from the lunatics. |

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.sht m Common Lighters - Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage. Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption, which allows up to two fueled lighters if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited, please leave it at home. |

Mmmmmm...nope. Not going there. All I'll say is if you are going to drink the KoolAid, make sure you know what's in it first. http://nikkikamens.squarespace.com
