Day 2, Saturday, October 24, 2009

The day dawned with beautiful azure blue skies. We readied ourselves for our first full day in Negril this Reach – for us, it is Reach # 9, # 9, # 9. Oh, the Beatles already did that one.

We dined at the Co Co for breakfast – continental was part of our package deal – banana bread, toast, cinnamon pinwheels, banana nut muffins, coffee, and juice. We leisurely dined among the relaxed guests and helpful wait staff at the Co Co LaPalm.

Then, we discussed the first tough decision of our first day. I was hoping this wouldn't spark an argument. Do we walk left down the beach or do we walk right up the beach. I thought if we walked left we could do a combo trip. So, we strolled south from the Co Co La Palm, looked at some Jamaican handiwork on the way. We also were looking at more beach at the Mariposta, Boat Bar and Rondel Village.

We walked down to Bourbon Beach and turned out to the road to do business at the Cambio. I had brought some Jamaican cash back to Michigan after our last reach, which got us through last night. So, we changed some American cash into lots of Jamaican cash - $ 87J to $1 US.

We decided to pay a call on our friends MoGlenn and Sweetsop, who are staying across NMB from the Cambio at Sun Gardens for 6 glorious months. I don’t like to pop in on people unannounced, but, I didn’t exactly have their home phone number. So, we asked at the front desk where they were staying. We were led down to their place.

They were surprised by our unscheduled visit They showed us their place which is very nice, a natural breezeway from front to back, with 2 balconies, A/C, fridge, stove, TV, nice gardens – all the comforts of home, a little different than Missouri, though. They even have their own dog. Very nice. MoGlenn has pics on one of his posts.

We strolled back with MoGlenn and Sweetsop to the Co Co La Palm.

They went off to their beach home at Sun Beach and Mi Lady and I and played on the beach for a while. We had a quick lunch at the Co Co Beach Bar – Cheeseburgers in Paradise.

Then, we met with the Tourwise rep who said that we would be picked up at 10:10 AM on our departure day. "Right", I said at the time, "They'll forget us.". (More on this on day 10).

Afterwards we went over to the For Real and had a couple of $150J RS. MoGlenn and his lovely spouse sat for a spell and discussed the states of affairs.

We strolled the lovely Co Co LaPalm gardens shooting pictures of some of the autumn bloomers:

I was in a carefree mood, so I said to Mi Lady, “Let’s take a chance and walk left again.” She said, “Twice in one day?!!” “What the heck”, I countered. She had no argument for that, so we walked south for the second time that day. What a risk-taker am I.

We strolled down to the Island Twist (formerly Irie on the Beach) at the Rondel Village to check out the new bartender. This was one of my assignments from Ziggy and I wasn’t about to fail. Her name is Keisha (sp?) and is very nice. We had a couple $ 150J beers there.

Another of my Ziggy assignments was to say Hi to Grace at Tony’s Hut.

So, we walked that way, the bar was just being opened by, none other than, Tony. We had not seen him there since the late 90’s. We had a lot of catching up to do – 2 rounds worth @ 200J/RS. We watched the sun go down there. Tony is a very nice man and one I could share an afternoon with.

We ate at Best of the West – it wasn’t as good as last Reach, but hit the spot. We ate it over at the For Real with Maureen, our favorite bartender.

We drank some more. Something about that first full day in Negril that makes me very thirsty. We crawled back to our hacienda at around 10 PM local time.

All in all, perfect beginning of our 10 day Jamaican odyssey. No rain and just a gorgeous, relaxing day!!

Yep, we were putting our shoes on to head out the door and walk up to meet you!

For those who don't know Weatherman and his "Mi Lady" they are as nice in person as they come across in this report.

Wow, nice pictures! The flowers are unbelievable! So nice to see this growth while the fall is upon us here in the States. It always kills me soul during the fall...it is so breathtaking yet one knows that all the blooms, leafs, etc. are going to be gone soon. Quite difficult to swallow sometimes. The only thing that seems to keep me hopeful is our winter trip to Jamaica. I can again feel the warmth, see the flowers, see all the colors and be at home again. Soon come Negril and I will be waiting to see, feel, smell, and wallow in the beauty.

Thank you; but the camera is the same one I've had for a few years - Sony Cheapshot DSC-40. It's probably that Red Stripe was not a factor in most of the photos.
