hey jajewel i heard this from jamaicamiss too sounded like it could be a scam stamp for 3 months - then pay your $10,000J to Karen Francis in Mobay - only SHE can collect the money for the extended stamp you know that kind of thing! Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.

I heard the same thing last night while chatting with a friend in JA. She always got the 6 month stamp, and just came back from Canada and only got the 3 month stamp.

| We heard this a couple of days ago on the beach. Not really sure what is going on. When we came in we were told to go to the police station here in Negril to get it extended another 3 months. People down here say that after the 3 months you can go to immigration in Kingson and now Mo Bay for a longer extension. Guess we'll find out for sure in January when we go to renew our 3 months. |

| It's the same when Jamaicans travel to the US. We may want to stay for 1 month but they(US) can stamp 3 weeks, 2 weeks. |

When I come in for a six month stay, they stamp me for 3 months and I get my extension at the Negril Police Station.

From what I understand the Negril PD will not work anymore. The new law went into effect October 1st and you must travel to Mobay for North Coast or Kingston if closer. And you must pay $10,000 Ja. This was told to me when I entered and tried to get my usual 6 months. So Ted and I are going to Curacao and will time it to leave just before the 3 months is up and then when I return I will qualify for another 3 months. We were going to go anyway and think we would rather spend the money on our vacation, rather than help pay redundant pay of almost $300,000US for that BOJ official. Another way to get money out of us tourists. |

It is a shame that Jamaica is adding all these new hotel and travel surcharges. It would seem to me that they are making the island LESS tourist friendly and with Mexico, Mayan Riviera, Panama all dropping in price (except air) to be competitive, Jamaica seems to be flying against the wind. Tourism's big in Jamaica and I can't imagine why they would want to wound their golden goose. They should stiff the IMF, not tourists ;) Greg Forest The Music Office musicoffice.com
