want to do this on my next trip & looking for any input/suggestions.
I've taken route cabs to Sav many times in the past-to shop at D&Y & the market so I'm comfortable w/the set-up.
I'm guessing Sav-Black River-Manderville but not sure.
Thanks

We took route taxi to Clarendon once and went through Mandeville. First taxi was Negril - Sav. Then changed to a route tax (bus) in Sav. That one took us all the way to Mandeville. Then we changed again in Mandeville to go on to Clarendon. This map shows the route. It's marked in red the route from Sav-Mandeville you'll take. Through Middle Quarters, bamboo alley, etc.

And this is a video from inside our Sav-Mandeville bus. Long ride!

I am wanting to go to Mandeville this trip...but doubt that Janet would care for the route taxi form of transportation....
Wanted to continue when we went to Appleton last year but decided to loop back that day......Kenny we might need you!

DAVE: looks like we arrive the same day!!

I go to the bus park in Negril get in a route cab traveling to Sav-la-mar, I forget it's something like 150J.
At the bus park in Sav-la-mar they tried to put me into a private car. Yelling at me,
"white lady can't take the bus"!
I reclined politely and said "white lady can take the bus"!
Another women kindly helped me find the right bus to take.
They are marked on the outside of a (what we call a mini van) or car. You have to wait until the bus or car fills up with people before you leave. I never paid more than 300J to go anywhere. It takes more time traveling this way, cause the car stops frequently to drop people off and pick more people up. Late at night and Sundays are not good to travel as they have less route cabs, but it can still be done, as you have to wait long (less cabs) and you have to pay more.

Route taxi also takes longer. I think we had to sit on the bus in Sav for nearly 45 min-hour waiting for it to fill up before they leave. Depending on the time of day could be quick to fill or you could be waiting a while. But overall I would absolutely do it again. The whole day was a fun experience in all the different route taxis. Of course we had a local with us so when we would get off a bus and be swarmed by people yelling at us to use their services for our next taxi we just smiled, pointed to our friend and said "talk to him!" It was a long day though for sure - our destination was in Clarendon and it took about 4 hours each way.

well...hitting a goat really sucks, I can tell you that for nothing. if it lives you have to carry it to the cops if it's owner isn't near.

I mean hey it sounds like a great trip, was just wondering why you wanted to deal with route taxi.

you probably don't want to be in one of the minivan taxis then...?

I view the words taxi or minivan aka minibus to be the same in this context.
As you say it does sound like a great trip, looking forward to it.
I've had many great adventures taking longer distance taxis/minibuses for the day and back. I find it's a wonderful way to meet 'da real people'.
For me it's more about the journey than the destination.

it's a long ride, but *fun* & interesting
..good scenery

the climb up the big-hill to Mandeville is breathtaking
...coming back down is scary

of course, spend the night there

the odds are pretty good that they'll have new-er bus/van compared to what they used when i went 'bout 7-years ago

nowdays, there're a LOT of new modern nice route-taxi/van vehicles
be happy

a side note about SpurTree

in Jamaica, when directions are given, in the hilly areas, you'll frequently hear folks refer to a place being "..at first-hill, or second-hill.."

on my trip to Mandeville, my Jamaican travel companion, who was making their first trip up SpurTree said::>> "...Wow.... this is like 7 or 8 *hills*.."
be happy
