Not a lot to say. We are starting to get settled into a routine. The day begins with me setting on the verandah enjoying my coffee and surfing the web. Teresa wakes a bit later and catches the news and weather on the tv. We both actually get moving around 8:30 and have breakfast and start our day after doing morning dishes. Sometimes the day is to go to Sun Beach. Sometimes it is to go shopping. Not much exciting.

Food Updates

Finally got to one of the cheap places we had been told about. This one is run by a guy called Dennis. It sets between Bourbon Beach and Bar-B-Barn, kind of hard to see just a small stall and kitchen a little down a narrow walkway. That day it was a bed of rice and peas with brown stew chicken, ackee and salt fish, and noodles on top. Price was $300J for a box. Tasted things but decided we have had better at a comparable price.

Monday, we joined Weatherman and wife along with two other Coco guests and went to Red Dragon for their jerk pork. Delicious as always. Afterwards we all went over to Canoe to find they were closed for painting so on to Mary’s Bay. We all had a bowl of “cream of pumpkin soup” and of course an accompanying red stripe or two. Yvonne had a flaming Bob Marley on her bucket list for this trip. It was lots of fun watching her get up the nerve to do this with others cheering here on!

Layers are ready…

…Add the overproof…

…Say your prayers…

…Get your straw ready while it is being lit…

…and suck it down!

The rest of the week was pretty well eating in. We did have some beach food with a pattie here and there, jerk pork from porkie, and ice cream. Gotta love that ice cream on the beach!

Aqua

We spent most of last Sunday home. Teresa baked some pumpkin bread to find out that Jamaican pumpkin makes it just as good as US pumpkins. Slightly different taste but not sure if that was the pumpkin, sugar, location, or what. After that we did venture out to Aqua for the webcast. One of the purposes of this trip was to call our son. We used our Ja cell to call and talk to the grandkids while we were on camera. Our daughter in law was afraid the grandkids would forget who we are during this trip. Turns out our 3 and a half year old granddaughter got a real kick out of seeing us on the computer.

The drinks and general vibes at Aqua are very nice. Highly recommend making a stop there if you want to kill some time or even as a destination. At Aqua, you get service with a smile!

The sunset view isn’t too shabby either!

Coco

We wandered up the beach a bit this week. Coco La Palm was having a returning guest/Halloween party. This included several days of activities and contests with winners getting prizes including free stays. Last year we had won a free week at Coco during this event and so stopped in a few times to say hey to everyone. One of the major events was sand sculpting. Following are a few pictures. One day was a practice and the other was the real event.

After carving the stairs around the base the ladies named this one “stairway to heaven”

Loved this one!

Boardie Weatherman working on a sea turtle.

A sandwitch!

Not sure what this one was but not bad looking.

Kind of impressive!

Contest Day! A spider or a lobster or ?

Just chilling on the beach

Weatherman’s finished sea turtle.

Kaye and Star’s rendition of the Coco pool logo

Octopus going after keg of rum

Graveyard with interesting epitaphs

Not sure who won, they were to be announced at the Saturday night Halloween dinner and party. Costumes at the party were also part of the contest. We haven’t heard who won all of the above but hopefully boardie friend Weatherman will get something very nice!

Along the way!

Sometimes we see interesting things while walking back and forth. For example, remember the confusion on the Swallow artist? First, Irie Mark Swallow, then Shandy Man Swallow, then just Swollow, and now…

Bourbon Beach is getting a little bit of a face lift. First, we saw them filling up the potholes with some fresh marl. Then they started digging a long trench. Now, they are building a small wall. According to the workers they will be putting some decent soil in the area to make a planting area. Took days for two guys to do the trench. One picked things loose, the other shoveled it out.

Goes from beach building to the road…

Once the trench is done a footing of concrete is poured and the wall is built.

Sometimes we walk on the road…

…And see a for sale sign…

…guess one of the Merrils is for sale…

…heres the number if you want some beachfront property to house your fellow boardies!

thanks for the pics. Those are some great sand sculptures. I like your reports--it is somehow satisfying to hear how they paint the signs or the trench for planting and sidewalk etc. Little glimpses of Negril go a long way.

Nice pix, Glenn and a great report. You should do this for a living. Oh, you kind of do.

Anyway, it was good to see you and Teresa almost every day on your journeys up to Sun Beach. We loved your place at Sun Garden, especially the natural ventilation from front to back. Our day at Red Dragon, the Canoe Bar try, and at Mary's was just awesome.

Hope to see you again along the way, if not in Jamaica then at FOJ!

Now, if I can just get paid or it! Guess I could take Smiths approach and beg everybody $1000, lol. Lots of fun with you guys also. Haven't hear how the sand sculpture turned out and the costumes. Waiting for that report and the pictures!

Rob had posted something on this but not sure it was firm. We will most likely not be here for it this year. I'll look for Lostinja when we walk by GP later today.

We plan on being here. We've heard great things about February here. We have eaten at One Mile and I have heard people refer to it as Up-Riseing, not sure if they are the same or not. Going towards beach it is on the left almost to the beach.

Heard they did. They are probably being quiet so they don't get a bunch of volunteer company.

RE: One Mile/ Uprising

My understanding is that the name of the restaurant is Uprising, and the name of the little road that comes in from Norman Manley is "One Mile." Someone told me it was named so because it's a mile to the roundabout from there.
