| What a wonderful trip report. I'm sad to see it end. Would love to hear your overall impression of Grand Pineapple. Would you stay there again? |

WOW! I was looking at the pics of you heading back to the airport, and I actually got that sad, sinking feeling that you experience on the ride back. Kinda freaky, as if I was actually in the car - I literally had to "snap out of it" -whew. I guess that shows what a great trip report you have shared with us - the details, writing and pics are amazing. You certainly have heightened my anticipation for my next trip, soon come. I can't believe how much you experienced on your first trip. You obviously did your research and it paid off! I'm thinking your new beach of choice is 7 mile and not Daytona. (P.S. Daytona used to be my favorite beach many, many years ago, I actually went there a couple of months ago, not even a comparison). Thank you Groove!

Thank you so much for the reports and the pictures. It got me so danged homesick, and made me realize that it only seems like forever until I will be in Negril, in reality that hourglass is sifting the sands down until it is my time to be there. http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=5801

Groove... Top to bottom this is the best report I have read. The air melancholy you convey on trip to the airport struck home pretty hard. Trust me that trip never gets any better. But as the saying goes.."all good things must end" Thank you !

those drive-to-the-airport photos really hurt. I had the same gut-wrenching reaction that obayb did--I felt those airport blues like a punch in the stomach--it brought me back to every time I have been on that road wanting to jump out of the car and go back. Conversely, all the rest of your report gave me those irie vibes that permeate Negril and the good people of Jamaica. Especially like the kids playing soccer and the craft shop. Thanks for sharing your trip. http://irie-negril-jamaica.blogspot.com/

WOW, what a wonderful trip for all of us as well as you guys! Thanks so much for sharing it all with us. Man, that trip back to Mobay is such a bummer. I could feel all the emotions just be watching the pictures. I loved the picture of the "call box" (telephone booth), hard to find nowdays in Negril or at least one that works! Blessing to you both for all you shared with Jamaica, most importantly...yourselves! Hope to meet you one day pon the rock.

groove, Love your reports, they are awesome. Really made me feel like I was there. You said that Janet gave 3 - 4 goody bags to the ladies. I want to do the same and was wondering if those were given to the houskeepers and/or other staff. Going to be bringing toys for some of the kids.

My first trip to Negril was in 1998 with the old airport, where they brought the stairs to the plane. I remember looking at the people in line to board and wondered why they were so sad.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. We enjoyed our trip so much so wanted to share. Mo we would definitely go back to GP, would love to but we are looking at may or june next year and at their rates that I have found we wont be able to afford it. Price has more that doubled what we paid w/ the deal. We loved GP (especially the location)but keep in mind this is our first AI trip anywhere. Wanted to ask you all as I am looking at trips for next year. Which month is better may or june? as far as weather, slow season etc. We kinda liked the slow season. We may not go A/I the next time. wit we will definitely be emailing you in the future about helping the kids. Starfire I just made bags to pass out and yes i did give to housekeepers w/ a note with their name, also stating what was in them w/ our names and our room #. We also gave to vendors we made friends w/ on the beach. The only time there was a problem, we wanted to give a female security guard (she took care of us)at GP some things for her and her children. She told us she appreciated it but could not take anything from us as she may lose her job. We were sad she could not take it. I gave the usual lotions, body wash, body spray, makeup, hair accessories, bandaids. We also brought some stuffed animals, hot wheels cars, small games and left for the housekeeper for her 4 kids. Oh here is the picture of some of our souvenirs and the RS bottle Garieth carved. He also carved the sun/moon and face. We bought those from him. Terry was busy tonight so I thought I would answer but he will be excited to see our your comments. Thanks again! janet

nice stuff! The stripe bottle is cool. Regarding your question about May/June--I love going in may--have gone the past 4 Mays--I go for Memorial Day so I can get extra days off from work and stay into June. It is pretty quiet in Negril then, but not so quiet that nothing is going on. The weather is great--some rain in the afternoons but just brief showers for the most part. My favorite trip times are November at Thanksgiving and May, both weather good--things mellow, and rates low for low season. When things were good I was doing those two trips plus sneaking a third one in some other time. Now that I am unemployed--my Jamaica schedule is compromised--for now. But I did go for a couple of weeks last September/October, so one way or another I'll get by without a trip on the calendar, sigh. Your report helped. http://irie-negril-jamaica.blogspot.com/

OMG at the responses. You guys are the best. Wit, I'll be in touch with you, for sure....and probably a few more of you fellow boardies...Need to pick your brains for our future trip.... Obayb, we've been to Daytona about 15 times in the last 18 years...It is only about 4.5 hour drive...I play a little cards, so I can spend some time at the dog track....Daytona has gone downhill over the years, as it has gotten older....Read about more and more crime....And of course, prices have gone uphill....We actually stay in Ormond Beach....But right now, Daytona seems a like a distant memory. The only good thing that I can recall on the DB trip is being able to take a couple of our dogs with us.... |

I love love love your report. Jamaica through fresh eyes is a breath of fresh air. I'm so proud of you too and how you did this vacation and how you moved through the country. I think you left GOOOD footprints in the sand. Opening your heart to love makes it open to hurt as well, but leave it closed and you don't have a chance at either.

Hey Groove and Janet, lots of great places to stay in May or June, remember, it is low season...you should be able to find prices much less at that time of year. I usually go for a week in June and love it. Grand Pinapple might not have any "deals", but lots of other places do. I don't spend my whole trip on the beach now, but try to get a few days in, spend lots of time researching different hotels (part of the fun for me). If you are willing to go non AI, you have a much larger range of choices. The weather is June is not much different than October, maybe a tad hotter, but it doesnt really heat up until July, August (never been then, but that is what I am told). Alot of the smaller places on the beach dont have websites, but a quick call to them will get you current and up to date info. It usually gets me a better price too. Everyone here had a wealth of info to share with you. I don't know what I would have done without the boards help on my first couple of trips.. Lata....

Groove, after reading reviews for many years I stumbled across your trip report while planning our first trip to negril this Jan. Truly AWESOME! I was moved by reports and pictures throughout the entire compilation. This trip report, combined with the great feedback from the board, has been the best in my experience with any forum. After lurking long time I had to register to thank you and Janet for taking the time to do this. Very helpful for a newbie. Thanks again! |

Nice choice on the moon/sun face....that was my favourite piece also. I vote for May but I've been both months and both are fine. I like May because you can score an extra day if you go over Memorial Day weekend and it extends our summer here. We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.
