It was suggested that I post this on the Negril board, instead of the Montego Bay board. So... Has anyone stayed at this B&B — Emerald View and Resort? It's in (Greenwood) Falmouth, near Time and Place Beach. From the reviews on Trip Advisor, I am a little concerned about spending a week there in December. It seems isolated. Any information is appreciated. |

What made you choose this B&B? have you traveled to JA before and prefer that area? What kind of experience are you looking for? Preach Peace~Live Love~Blesséd Be ONE LOVE Sweet

We received four-nights free from a promotion. This was the only hotel they had with any availability. We are visiting for our honeymoon. We will stay at the Emerald View for the first week and then travel to Negril and stay at Couples Swept Away for a week. So very excited. My STBH is looking forward to the beaches, which I told him would be better the second week. While in Montego Bay, I want to do two trips. One, to the Rasta Village and Montego Bay, in general, and the other one to Martha Brae and Luminous Lagoon. And we are big music people, so we will probably hit up Montego Bay for some night life a few nights. On the plus side, it looks like the Emerald View will offer us a chance to experience a less resort-esque Jamaica. We are looking forward to some yummy food! But I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on transportation. |

I haven't stayed there but a friend of mine did a few years ago. There were only a few people staying there at the time and it wasn't a good experience. It is extremely isolated -- there's nothing nearby at all and it's a very expensive cab ride into Montego Bay. Have you ever stayed in Montego Bay? Every year at the airport waiting for the plane to Jamaica I have talked to people who were going to stay in Montego Bay and they all have one thing in common -- it's their first trip to Jamaica. |

Congrats Pixel. You sound like you have a great trip planned. If you guys are active then I think your choices are great - for many though JA causes us to get "sand gravity" and we just want to chill and limit our tours to just one or two. Montego Bay is cool but we of course love Negril and there are places you can go from there like Black River, Pelican Bar, shopping in SavLaMar, Mayfield Falls but you have to factor in your travel time etc and of course the cost. I hope others respond about Emerald View - I would be hesitant to stay there unless you have a recommendation but you could just go and if it does not meet your standards - you could choose another place but of course it would not be free like EV will be. You want your first week of your honeymoon to be PERFECT - Rhoades Hall is a great place to check out for privacy.......Safe travels Preach Peace~Live Love~Blesséd Be ONE LOVE Sweet

From another post a quiet, private place, beautiful, with things to do like horseback riding and snorkling... Check out Rhodes Hall Plantation. It's about five miles before Negril and has some fantastic reviews and is PRIVATE. They also have a little cottage away from the other cottages that is small and cheap and on a really nice plantation. Here is the trip advisor report along with photos. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147313-d148124-Reviews-Rhodes_Hall _Plantation-Negril_Jamaica.html Preach Peace~Live Love~Blesséd Be ONE LOVE Sweet

WHy not stay there for just the 4 free nights, and then stay 10 nights in Negril? Do you have to book a week to get the 4 free? I personally wouldn't have a problem staying there, but I don't do much running around. They list some tours on their site, have you thought about doing some of those? I know where Greenwood is and if the guesthouse is up in the hills around there, there really is not much of anything happening. On the main highway there are alot of businesses & a gas station & some big houses, but no restaurants or bars right there. If you do a little driving in either direction, you can find some local restaurants/bars, but would need a taxi. It is quite a ways to go back to Mobay....don't know what taxi fare would be. Since you are on your honeymoon, you may want to spend most of your time in your room anyway! JAMAICA....NOTHING is as it seems!

Crazy that I saw this - last year this property literally saved us so much misery. We were in Negril for our 29th year (30th coming up on 11/15!!!!) and found a dying puppy across the street from Tamboo. Long story short, we adopted it and chose to take it home. I called NWA and gave dimensions of the only carrier we could find in JA... a hard-sided carrier. We were assured that the carrier would fit under the first-class seats on Northwest. Didn't happen - we got kicked off of the plane. The NWA agents called over 30 hotels and B&B's - only the Emerald View Resort Villa would take us and the puppy. They helped us in every way. As a Platinum NW flyer, Northwest sent a soft-sided carrier down, and we and the puppy left the next day. BUT>>> the experience at Emerald View was amazing. More than amazing. Yes, it's isolated. But, Jennifer and her family - and their mongrel - are incredible. She met us at the property and took us to a GREAT restaurant down on the water in her own vehicle - and shared dinner with us. What a wonderful person! Jamaican, and lived in the US for a long period of time... Her kids were wonderful - watched the puppy! The grounds were gorgeous. We're bringing 15 people back there for our last evening in Jamaica - we love Negril, but the ease of getting to MBJ the next day can't be beat! I would ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND a short stay there. They were a blessing to us. The great breakfast in the morning was wonderful, and no property could have done more to make us welcome. The villa is BEAUTIFUL! I've stayed in Negril since 1979. I'll never stay anywhere near Mo Bay other than Emerald View. |

Please let me know if you need more info. I haven't even begun to describe the beautiful rooms and the really neat balconies that we had breakfast on - the pool is super. The consideration they showed to people they had never met - AND A MONGREL PUPPY - was amazing. I can't say enough about that one night... but, WE'RE GOING BACK THIS YEAR!!! |

By the way - our mongrel puppy, named Irie, is a beautiful 1 year old dog - he's fine, and sleeps under the covers in Minnesota. The view of the cruise ships from the restaurant near Emerald View were stunning... |

Sharon, I would love more information. Were you able to walk down "the hill" to find local dining? Did you feel transportation costs added up? Could you walk to the beach? I will pass on all your kind words to Jennifer. We are staying five nights (I booked an extra one before I read enough reviews) but then switching to CSA. Our concern is that all the money we save with the free stay will be used up paying for expensive food and transportation. Our hope is that, regardless, we will enjoy the area, get to see some non-resort Jamaica and go on a few tours (Luminous Lagoon, Rasta Village and Martha Brae). |

pixel i think emerald view will be fine sounds like a lovely spot and not to far from mobay i like mobay and there are some things to do there you can party at margaritaville, the brewery and pier one - there is a new place but the name escapes me right now - if i remember i will come back and tell you there are places to eat like the pork pit (cheap), the native (not cheap) and marquerites (wonderful seafood - but really not cheap) doctor's cave beach is nice, clean and quiet - the restaurant on the beach the happy grouper has very good food it sounds like the owners are very accommodating and you may be able to find a driver of your own for a reasonable price and there is always the adventure of taking route taxis (local taxis at local prices) since you have the week in negril - just go with the flow at emerald view - you may find that you will like that experience even better than the A/I best wishes on your wedding BTW - now you owe us a trip report with pics (GRIN) Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.

Pixel Make sure you stop by Time N Place. It is in that area. Cool place to hang out. Nice beach bar. No hassles. Tony is a great host. We have known him for many years. Tell him Russ and Subrina sent you. |

| I stopped by several years back. I know it is one of the original hotels from back in the day. You can still see alot of its charm. My Rasta sister that says they are doing alot of remodeling and that it is family owned. It a close route taxi ride into the city area of mobay and within 10 ride to Hopewell. The lights from mobay will look so beautiful at night across the water. Enjoy your stay...I think you will be pleasantly surprised. |

Thanks for all the kind words and support. I'll be sure to look into a route taxi. I was worried we were to far off the "route" to get on, but if that's a possibility I feel much better. And for sure, I'll be glad to post pictures and a trip report! |
