Our first year was for 18 days around the island. Now we can only get in 15-16 because the kids complain of missing too much school, but we only go over the Christmas/New Year's break. The end up missing 3-4 days. It seems to be never enough of us. One day we will go for much longer! Love is what makes the world go around...At least it should be!

| Just once I would love to be able to go with no time limit. Be able to stay until I was *READY* to leave! Would love to know how long that would take.... |

I am praying for a long stay at some point in my life - and by long I mean 4-6 months. But for now the longest stretch I can manage with work & finances is 17 days. The trick with this one is to arrive on a Friday and leave on a Monday - we have 3 weekends there and it feels like forever. Total bliss. It's so nice to hit the weekend webcasts and have the bar owners & staff so surprised to see you that you are still there. (not to mention how nice it is when people ask, "how long are you here for?" 17 days!!!! )

I like 2 weeks--but usually due to work and $$ and pets at home can only do 8-10 days max.

Hi, Jitterbug! Hope you had a wonderful time! I would love to go for a very lengthy stay (3-6mo) but not until the kids are out of school. I guess we just have to be patient, lol. Love is what makes the world go around...At least it should be!

Tawnee I'll have to remember this and how you like to rub it in when you are down. When you ask how much longer we have, I'll casually respond "Oh, about 130 days". Lol, look forward to seeing you again. |

| Any time spent in Jamaica is a blessing...whatever fits into ones schedule. There are many people that do not have the opportunity to spend any time in Jamaica...especially with the hard economic times right now. So, I am thankful for my many trips spent in Jamaica with varying lengths of time. Blessings to all.. |

Hello Rastagirl your suggestion is marvelous of course my situation is that I own a business here in the states, my time off comes when we close for a break I have lived yard style in the past outside of Sav then in Sheffield many a journey found me out of hotels and in the yard makes me so much happier that way I am no stranger to yardie life yet I do still know living on the island long term vs visiting, still much different my time will come when I am able to stay for that extended stay January gives me 4-6 weeks looking forward to that time I do believe we are all where we are supposed to be and when I am supposed to be in Jamaica long term I will then be there blessings |

I still prefer a month but after a month long stay I did return to a dog that was emaciated and required emergency treatment at the vets, didnt have a clue what was going on at the kennel until I picked her up, the phone calls I had made checking on her never mentioned her condition. I am sticking to to 12 night trips with hopes of longer stays in the future (when I am dogless and retired).

I love a six month stay, like some of the other posters mentioned, "the pet problem" can be really really hard. I have stayed in Jamaica for probably about six consecutive six month stays, flying back to Miami for the required 24/48 hr. "get off the island" rule as far as immigration goes. I'm wondering if, in these times, that rule has changed? Most recently my stays are usually only for 21 days, twice a year. When my kids were younger I could stay from June 22 through Sept. 1.. that was great.. I really think it takes six weeks to settle in nice. I have in past times overstayed my six month visa. I'm wondering if they keep that rule as strict as they used to .. Immigration would actually come looking for you after the seventh month. I remember a couple of awful times for me when they "were looking for me" in Redground and I would hide out all day long, as well as times in the west end. I would have sufficient warning though, much thanks to Jamaican friends who would send their kids with the message. Is the rule of leaving every six months for 24/48 hours still in place? For four years or so that was fine with me, I would fly into Miami and get what I needed and get what my friends needed, oftentimes car type of things -- air filters, oil filters, etc. and of course batteries, etc. When living in Jamaica though, it does definitely get to be a DRAG to have to spend the money to leave. In any event, once I had my first child I wanted out of JA and was (at the time) glad to get out of there. I now long to be back. The first winter back was really really HARD... Bob Marley and the Wailer's released their albumn 'Africa Unite' ... that might not be the name of the albumn but that song is on it.. Oh my god !!! I was SO used to living in sweet sweet Jamaica and there I was in upstate New York in ZERO DEGREE weather, with a six pound baby???? That albumn gave me a great great great amount of comfort that winter. From having the great opportunity to living in large amounts of time in London, Negril, Ochi, Strawberry Fields, Kingston, Stony Hill, and San Francisco to being confined to "upstate NY" ... that was a SHOCK to my system, but necessary as a young mother. This was a hard time in my life for sure, I recouperated quickly though, finding a great amount of amazing Rastafari musicians in Brooklyn, all ready and able to perform! Being a booking agent was something that I could do while being a "stay at home Mom" -- |

Me too, which is why I go when I go and ONLY then...that's when we slow down. Still, I do work when I'm there - since its my own business I must stay on top of things. I'm on my computer every day for a little while dealing with email, talking to my office and getting a few things done. http://nikkikamens.squarespace.com

Two people we have talked to were told by immigration that it is now 6 months out a year with out doing something special. Both were were told that for their next trip they would need a visa. Another person we know came in with a 3 month stamp, went to police station to get extended to 6 month, went to immigration office (Montego Bay) and now has it extended again. So who knows what the rule is? |

Being that I am still a working stiff with little vacation, I think that arriving on Saturday and leaving on Monday (9 days) is great. It feels much longer than a week and you get 2 Saturday nights at Seastar. I gotta' caribbean soul I can barely control...
