well it is a pretty sweet spot- the joint is all decked out in antique wood furniture, 3 sick rooms, lots of nooks and crannies, and the set up keeps the sound really really warm with good bass. one thing that I used to really dislike about the belmont when I used to play there was the pissy sound they had, and the layout of the spot being one really unwieldy long ass room.

we will definitely do it again, and I just scored Major Lazer tunes on vinyl!

here's what's going down at SOBs, they got two decent events coming up this week.

DIRTY SEXY SOCA-THIS SATURDAY
GYPTIAN B-DAY BASH & SHOW- MONDAY
SERANI ALBUM RELEASE SHOW- TUESDAY

Its a full serving of Reggae and Soca coming up at SOBs. Starting on Saturday the party is getting under way with the monthly Soca Feté that is quickly becoming the hottest event in Manhattan.

Monday, Rock with Squeeze invites Gyptain for a Birthday Bash AND video shoot. Admission is only $10 before 9pm, so come down for a night of partying.

And it doesnt end there! On Tuesday, Serani comes for his album release. With a ticket purchase EVERYONE gets a FREE COPY of the Serani CD.

Mighty Diamonds were tonight -- what a JOYOUS three hour + show they put on tonight (in Woodstock at Bearsville Theatre) anyone in the NYC area should go to the TRIBUTE to this great group in Brooklyn on November 1.

p.s. no SOB Monday's for me (I have to work).. most of my reggae runnings are on Friday (and mostly) Saturday nights -- I usually always go to any of the special events at Twelve Tribes Headquarters, the more cultural shows at Amazura in Queens when they are on a Saturday night. I'm also in attendance at the more cultural shows in Harlem, as well as at most of the West Indian Social Club events in Hartford. I'm not really a dancehall fan, lots of times there is some amount of violence/ running out of the place/ stampede types of situations that I'm not into being in those types of scenarios at this point in my life. Even for some of the more NICE events, i.e. Rodigan shows, I've had to RUN TOO FAST deep in the various ghetto areas of NY/CT/NJ "I still attend though:"

I can't deal with the times square scene either...the Brooklyn show is Friday night, so no worries about work the next morn!

“FIRERAMA” – the concert and dance, is coming to New York City. On Friday, November 13, 2009, Brooklyn will be lyrically set ablaze by three of the leading fire spewing messengers of conscious dancehall reggae – Capleton, Anthony B and Coco Tea — as they make live appearances at the Cultural Performing Arts Center (C-PAC), located at 1020 East 48th Street, Brooklyn. The doors will open at 10 p.m.

Hosted by Selector Noah, the show and dance will also feature a slew of New York City’s top disc jockeys – DJ Roy, Irie Jam, Massive B, Bobby Konders & Jabba, Baby Q of Libra Love, Six Love Ent., DJ Elly, Redman, and Obsession.

Music fans are already voicing praise for the promoters of Jammins Entertainment, New Horizon, Red Hot Radio, Chi Ching and Genesis Restaurant, who collaborated to give New Yorkers this upcoming event.

Ticket and other information regarding the show may be obtained by calling 718-282-8041 or visiting the C-PAC Box Office at 1020 East 48th Street, corner of Farragut Road, Brooklyn, NY.

I wish some of these DJs would lay off the mic. My God whatever happened to just playing tunes. The Serani release was ridiculous amounts of worthless chat and chatter.

Saturday November 21st (Late)
S.O.B.'s Present:
MIDNITE
St. Croix's Reggae Export

Doors: 11:55pm
Admission: $22 Advance/ $25 Day Of Show
On Saturday, November 21st, Midnite returns to SOBs after a too long hiatus. Last time the band graced the stage it was an epic show.

Midnite is one of the most highly respected roots reggae bands playing today. Originally from St Croix, the band was formed in the 80s by brothers, Vaughn & Ron Benjamin. Since their first album Ras Mek Peace (Before Reverb and Without Delay), the group has been touring steadily all around the world.

Though the band has had a fluid cast of musicians over the years, one thing that has remained constant is lead singer Vaughn Benjamin's anchoring vocals. Vauhgn's lyrics are potent and his voice is distinctive.

Fans know that the concerts can stretch as long as 3 hours, and its a testament to the groups music that they are able to hold an audience's attention for that long.
