The Negril morass or wetlands acts as a filter ensuring that water coming into the sea is fit for the reefs and sea life to survive. Pollutants, sediments and other particles are trapped by the plants and used for plant production for the animals that live there. The peat in the morass acts as a sponge also thereby preventing flooding in the area. The Negril morass lies between The Negril Hills, The Fish River Hills and the sea and is 2428 hectares in size.
So although we don’t pay it much attention, we must remember how important and special it is.
